Something
There is something I have been dying to tell you,
Something I have kept hidden.
Something I should have blurted out long ago,
But didn’t.
I have to tell you something,
Not world-shaking, perhaps,
But in its own way, shocking.
No, no, nothing horrendous, I assure you,
No need to fear,
Just something I should have got off my chest a long time ago.
You’ve been my best friend for, what, four years?
I’ve been glad of your support, and your being there for me,
And when I can, I do reciprocate in kind.
I don’t wish to end this glorious friendship,
For you may not feel the same way,
But I must tell you now
(Before my heart explodes)
That I’ve been in love with you,
Ever since the ninth grade.
I can see your face now, as you read this ditty,
I only hope you are not too shocked,
For so was I, when I realized it.
I don’t know why I feel the way I do, I just do:
Who can unravel the mysteries of love?
I certainly didn’t plan for it to happen,
Things just did.
I look at you now, from across the yard, see your beautiful face,
And wonder now, if I have done right in letting you know,
That,
I am,
Truly
Deeply,
Honestly,
In love with you.
