I expected it to have changed.
I walked back there last night
To the place where the trees stand guard
Around the bench of stone.
This was our place
You told me
Under the brilliant, endless night sky.
As endless as our love, you said.
And just as beautiful.
I sat on the seat nature carved,
Warmed by summer’s embrace
Reminiscent of yours,
I had felt just a few months ago.
As the breeze caressed my cheeks,
I recalled the time
Walking up the grassy path
To our place
And there you were with her,
Swaying in the moonlight,
Whispering that your love was as endless as the skies
And as beautiful as the diamond stars
That twinkle in the sea of ebony.
She smiled bashfully
With moonlight dancing off her teary eyes
Moved from those romantic words
Which had been spoken many times before
In the place that had belonged
To you and me.
I expected it to have changed
And in a way, I suppose it had.
I no longer felt your presence
But instead the rustle of the leaves,
And the gentle gusts of summer
Apologized on your behalf.
This is still my place.

this is such a touching piece. it feels as though it might have come from a movie but then I see it is under personal. you must have been hurt to know that he said the same thing once before on various occasions. you deserve much more. hopefully love is just around the corner. the imagery and everything is amazing in this piece as if I can feel it all like
I am there. truly a great piece and I wish you all the best. thank you for entering and good luck.
