My Valentine's day gift to you ( a sonnet)

Let critics rant about it as they may
(with bangs on table tops while drops of spit
spray on the ones who listen to their wit)
Yes, let them criticise the  scan'dlous way
in which we're tricked to spend our cash that day,
on useless gifts - like fake "Swiss" chocolate
or ghastly plastic roses; but then it
's about the thought behind the gift, they say.
So I, will buy you roses, deeply red
like planet mars amongst the stars above
and roses that's so white that you'll be led,
to think that it's the plumage of a dove.
Or let me with this poem declare instead,
to you, my simple and undying  love.
