Half Past The Hour

half past the hour

where the clock struck midnight,

and the calender announced tomorrow.

yet in this glass,

the wine poured tonight;

and the candle flickers

reflecting today's screaming sorrow;

    Oh my! With these words, it is hard to detect what may have gone on to leave her sitting, reflecting as she is. Time marches swiftly past when we are lost in sorrowful thought. Excellent take on the prompt. Thank you for this entry and I wish you the best in the Comp.

    Nice poem - such sadness conveyed so economically and elegantly. I like the reference to the passage of time that compliments the candle in the painting. I couldn't help remembering Edgar Dega's 'The Glass of Absinth". See -

    This fits the prompt so well Sis. I know what it's like to be going through things and watch the clock and have the time slip by, part of you wanting it to fly by, the other part of you wanting it to just stop. The second stanza in this just echoed heartache. I could say more here but I won't. Best of luck in the contest. Be well and be blessed
