The moon rose in the ebony night
A white contrast against a canvas soaked in ink
Casting down a sallow glow
Illuminating the fearless faces of the night
The vacant hands clinging to the velvet cloths
Of the life they had left behind
The abstraction of her existence
Holding fast to what had escaped her lips
In a single breath—
Gone
A cold, heavy space inside her chest
Stagnant in frozen time
Yearning to touch
To feel warmth beneath her frigid skin
A single breath—
A blush of heat
A rush of flame through her veins of ash
Pallid fingers run through the threads of the moments past
Craving their timeless unity,
But finding only ends
A wretched sight
A puff of air frozen in the wind
Lost to the lips of time
She searches for the breath that gave her life
But had forsaken her in death

Wow!
I agree with Darkest Sin - the cadence of this poem is quite amazing, and the careful wording is so enthralling... you just drew me into this cold, dark world and made me really feel the plight of this girl who has been left behind.
I love your contrasts between life and death.
Wonderful!
