The strokes of your keys soothe my soul
My fingers in one common goal;
My symphony is now complete
My soul finds rest in its defeat.
My fingers in one common goal
Shattered pieces; you make them whole,
Brokenness in now a stranger
Played by you; I’m out of danger.
My symphony is now complete
Your sound helps me achieve this feat;
Sharps and flats are my long-time friends
To bitterness I make amends.
My soul finds rest in its defeat
Peace is in my piano’s beat;
Face to face, I am its servant
All this time, this is all I want.

Retourne - Like so many other French forms, the retourne is all about repetition. It contains four quatrains (four-line stanzas), and each line has eight syllables. The trick is that the first stanza's second line must also be the second stanza's first line, the first stanza's third line is the third stanza's first, and the first stanza's fourth line is the fourth stanza's first. Retournes do not have to rhyme. (from ShadowPoetry.com)

This is beautiful. It flows perfectly, and it describes you love for music and the piano in a way I've never though of. i always love reading things about my own instruments written by other people who play them as well. Amazing job!

Great job. This is another of my favorites from this contest. I really like the form you used here, and the way you described the music. Thank you for following the rules. Best of luck in the contest, but I'm fairly certain it will win something.

Ooooh... "My soul finds rest in its defeat"... like giving yourself into this person huh? + like the double meaning of "played by you"!
-
This is great! Using the retourne really made this piece sing. I'd live to hear you play the piano.
Love,
