Behold the Belly dancer
The goddess of love
Hiding behind her veil of mystery
She shimmies around the bonfire
Making her presence known
All eyes upon her
She stops
Peers over her veil
Gaze penetrating
Seeking the one
When found she begins her dance of love
Mesmerizing green eyes
Locked into his
She lowers her veil
Presenting herself to her beloved
Like a beautiful python
She slowly undulates around him
Moving with sensuous intent
Then in celebration
She lifts her veil and twirls
Around and around
Veil flowing
Air lifting it in flight
Firelight casting mystical shadows
Echoing waves creating beautiful music
She is connected to the earth
Yet her soul is connected to him
She kneels before her chosen one
Takes his hand
And leans forward
Touching her lips to his
With provocative tenderness
She wraps the veil around
Their interlocked hands
Binding them in love
Sighs escape her captive audience
As she leads him away from the fire
Vanishing into the darkness
Hand in hand
With her beloved
Author notes
After a long absence I've just returned to Belly dancing and I'm learning a beautiful veil dance. This, and with Valentine's Day fast approaching, is what inspired this poem.

Beautiful...
Beautiful poem here. The Dance. I do know that Belly dance is the celabration of birth. But dancing around a beloved before the birth is capable sure helps. Great seductiive writing here. Thanks for sharing your poetic talent.

The poetess paces the movements and keeps the tacit momentum throughout. Just as it should be presented. As an afficianodo of this style of dancing my self I see you have imbued imagery to the reader with a clarity even if they have not experienced this sensuous and provocative dance for themselves.
Well done and good luck in the contest.
