On September eleventh they would tumble and fall.
Identical twins that once stood tall.
Brought down by machines with the ability to fly.
Shot down like lightning from a crystal clear sky.
The towers crumbled and innocence was taken.
Liberty and freedom had truly been shaken.
Men, women and children lost their lives.
Brothers and sisters, husbands and wives.
Their spirits remain and we will always remember.
The morning they perished on that day in September.
They took our loved ones and left their mark.
But ignited a flame from their little spark.
The red, white and blue will always stand tall.
Like the memories of the towers that would tumble and fall.

All the heroes, the fire fighters and police men are dying too. Don't forget them, many are still alive.

I found the rhyming itself to be a bit elementary but the beautiful and profound meaning held within this piece surely surpasses. Great job at commemorating those we all lost that tragic day.

omg I know exactly how this feels, I was only 10 wen the twin towers fell, I was in 5th grade. I didnt really understand at the time, how much it affected everyone. but now that I look back it finally brings tears to my eyes. Nice work!

This does read easily, the flow is good and the sentiment is kind. However, the reasons for the attack are far more complex and I feel that this style does not reflect at all on why anyone would want to inflict such carnage on a global city. It is a little to innocent for the combined experience of a city like New York and a country such as America.
We must remove the dust and try to look clearly at those events - the black and white then fades to grey.
On the other hand, if a swathe of America's population really is as innocent in all of this as it sounds here, then I would dearly love to see them making inroads in day-to-day affairs/policy etc.
Thanks for sharing... -
my thoughts are your words, you said it perfectly. Haunting imagery but needed. The truth in we will always remember...I'm not vene n american, I am australian, but we too over here were of course effected by it sat in awe in front of our tv's, shocked, stunned and silenced briefly.
You have also in this piece done americans proud, showing respect, especially in the second last line
I really enjoyed reading this and i something important you have done well to share

Dear pappa,
your poem is a fine tribute to the spirit that remains, it says we won't forget what we regret, though the towers fell and unleashed another kind of hell it's not a place in which we will dwell, we will walk with pride and never deride by losing sight that we walk as tall as the twin towers within heart and mind, stand tall and hold on to the hope and liberty for mankind.
NB within title semptember/september, not a criticism but a heads up to quick fix.
Peace from across the pond, love and light, Yvette

I love the way you represented this piece Shawn, very enlightning to many who still feels the sadness of this day in History. Still it haunts us in memory, but in Truth, we shall move on in the name of the Almighty and start where we left off, as a nation, a place of Peace and Harmony that tried to be stolen from us. Great job on this and I love the reflection of the towers in the picture above. Real talk here
