South by Southwest
"Captain, Let's give them the slip."
I said as I stood next to the mast.
He sneered, "They can't keep up with this ship"
as he put down his spyglass.
The captain spoke, “tell the Bo swain a steady course."
I hollered out in my deepest voice,
"STEADY AS SHE GOES," growing hoarse,
knowing that my captain had made his choice.
Sailors ran and climbed to their places.
The captain, his fingers in his snuff tin,
watched the joy of the crew's faces.
The sails unfurled, clutching the wind.
“Scotty, into my cabin, now”, at his command.
"Aye, Aye sir," I saluted and stood straight.
He strode in, map and compass in hand.
His excitement in our new found fate.
James Tiberius grinned, speaking clear.
“We sail to a new land, a day tripper.
We go where no man has gone before, It appears,
in Starstream, the world's fastest clipper."

You have told a wonderful tale here. Well penned. All the best in the contest with it

well done
super poem, well written, thanks -
I enjoyed this poem, although I'm sorry that it isn't eligible for judging because you didn't place the prompt in the authors notes. I liked the story and the nautical feel of the language and tone... the rhyme and rhythm are wonderfully done

Keep writing
Polly
