I love my Mommy
She's always there when I'm scared or hurt
She chases away the monsters under my bed
And kisses away the pain when I fall
I tell her every day that I love her
She kisses me and says "I love you, too"
I love my Daddy
He always plays with me and teaches me new games
He gave me his old glove so I can play catch
And he taught me how to pitch and bat
I tell him every day that I love him
He hugs me and says "I love you, too"
When I turned five, I got a little sister
I love her a lot and I help take care of her
I read her stories and make her laugh
I whisper to her every night that I love her
And she smiles at me and I can tell that she loves me, too
One day, something happened
Daddy got mad and started yelling at Mommy
I was scared and hid in the room I shared with my sister
She started to cry and I held her
I wanted to cry too, but I told myself that I had to be strong
I had to protect my sister
Daddy always came home smelling really bad
I asked him why once
He yelled at me and I didn't ask anymore
Mommy and Daddy always yelled at each other
Mommy always cried after and Daddy would leave
I didn't like how Daddy made Mommy cry
After a while, I didn't love him anymore
When I was seven and my sister was two
Daddy left one day
He said he was tired of everything
And that was the last time I saw him
But I wasn't sad, I didn't love him anymore
Mommy always looked tired
She was always gone
My sister and I were always alone
Even with the babysitters, we felt alone
I could hear Mommy crying every night
And I would cry with her
One day, Mommy went to work
And didn't come back home
The next day, the policemen came to us
He said that Mommy was gone
And said that we had to live with Grandma
I asked him where Mommy was
He told me that she was in Heaven
I asked him why
And he told me that she was in an accident
I asked him more questions, but he didn't answer
My sister and I went to Mommy's funeral
Everyone was crying
I held my sister's hand and we cried together
We were sad
Mommy was gone
But when I thought about it, I stopped crying
My sister asked me why?
I told her "Because Mommy isn't sad anymore.
She's in Heaven and she is watching over us.
One day we will see her again."
She kept crying, but I couldn't
I knew that she was in a better place
Grandma told me all the time
She would be happy again
I stepped up to her grave and placed a rose on it
Roses were Mommy's favorite and I knew she would like it
I smiled up at the grey sky as the rain stopped and said
"I love you"
Author notes
A bit of this is from personal experience, but not all of it. Half of it is what I feared when I was little. Can you guess which parts?
