The flower that never opens,
Not unless some guy comes along,
And helps it grow.
I wait for years and years,
And no one catches my eye.
There are handsome ones,
But none that seem amazingly wonderful.
Finally, I find the one I want,
With beautiful blond hair,
Miraculous blue eyes,
And is about six foot.
Apparently I caught his eye, too,
Because he called me
And asked me a question.
I said yes and so did he.
My little red bud was beginning to open.
It only opened a tiny bit,
But there it was,
And he was helping it grow.
The bud of my heart grew rapidly,
As our relationship grew.
Within months,
We knew we loved eachother.
Soon the flower was at full bloom.
It was as big around as a dinner plate,
And was a flaming color red.
It contained thousands of delicate miniature pedals.
This guy was amazing,
And I loved him with all my heart.
I could tell he felt the same
Because his smile was saved just for me.
All of a sudden,
My immeasurable, voluminous flower was gone.
It seemed to have been stolen,
But felt like it had burned.
I looked down at my chest,
To see microscopic ashes falling to the ground.
My love was gone,
And he had taken my heart from me.
My beautiful fiery-red blossom had dissipated
And I was seething with anger.
I hated him for it,
But then that, too, became consumed.
This was the only guy
Who made me feel this way,
And he was the only one I've ever met
That could open my heart the way he did.

i'm 52 and have lived through this many times. some get lucky and find that 'forever' person right away. for most of us it takes longer
which, of course, means our hearts break more than once.
thank you for entering and good luck
i do hope your heart is healing

Thanks for entering the contest

I know how you feel. When I was 10 I met a kid in 4th grade, and loved him for 9 years, even tho we were separated. we found eachother again and he lead me on all summer. I gave up a huge scholarship to college to follow him 900 miles away from home to a college in Georgia. Then two days beofre we were to drive down there together, he broke it off. Turns out he had been cheating on me all summer with his ex. So there I was, with my heart torn out in a new place 900 miles from home with no friends and no desire to live.
A little later on, I met a Marine on the computer...I wont give a long story about that, but I am married to him now, and I know now that God has a certian someone for everyone. I got over the guy that broke my heart, and can see now that God had better things for me. If God had not had me meet that kid all the way back in 4th grade, I never would have been at the college where I met my Husband. All things work together for good. Trust the one who plans it all out. There are no mistakes from his hand.
Thanks again for entering and good luck in the contest

I loved the start of this and the use of the bud, it's such a sweet image. It's hard to hate someone if we have once loved them, it's not proper hate it's hating ourselves for letting this happen, in a way. I know how you mean though, Karl was the first to touch my heart in that way and I can't stand him for it, yet I will never totally forget him or not want to help him if he begs me.
