In heat of summer sun
mischief abounds.
Dares and double dares
as they rise to forbidden risks.
As sun beats down
decisions are made,
with no one around
agreeing to sneak a swim.
Nearest dam on the way home
becomes the focus.
In heightened excitement
they make bold manouevre
for nearest dam.
Skinny dip it must be
as they swing from rope
tied to tree,
daring each other
to make the biggest splash.
Suddenly shotgun rings out,
lads scuttle out, grabbing clothes,
protecting block and tackle.
With trophy held high
they race to safer pastures,
as dog avoids being crushed
under terrified feet.

Good luck in the contest! This picture made me laugh and the poem was very refreshing to read... it's nice to step back from the typical everyday poetry once in awhile. Well done! (By the way the picture kind of looks like the little boy is stepping on the dog!)
