The Caretakers of Land

I want to believe
in the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Ghost,
Buddha, the Gods of Greece,
the Goddesses, Allah,
and all else.

I want to believe
the stars are heavens
and the outlines of clouds
are the light which emits
from the great ones.

I want to believe
that they all agree
to have different
people believe in them,

that there wouldn't be bets
placed on religion forming at birth,
that there wouldn't be more then one
angel sent to Hell for his impudence.

Oh if there were a division
of law that gives all adequate
reign that would be grand.

Only if the other galaxies
and stars had Gods to rule them
too, for the ones that were chosen
for our people are ours alone,
I would smile wide.

But when destruction
brings blood to the veins
in our eyes over
"false" Gods,
when children our sacrificed
in the name of the holy,
it is incomprehensible
to see an agreement met straight faced
in another realm.

That there might have been a document
that all the spirits signed
to bring peace is absurd
when we have so little faith here
that we can't even feel it anymore.

Can you really believe in just one religion,
when you have no evidence against another?

there are so many explanations for the way of the world. It matters little which "why" you choose as long as it helps you live well, free and honorably with those around you. Unfortunately, many believe that the truth is arrived at by vote and want to insure they are never invalidated by a miscast vote. This effort at control is a false god all of its own and quickly creates pain by trying to bring it into being. Creed does not define God, it defines the believer.

Your poem is well thought out, full of lovely images. As always you are a magical visionary of an artist. The spirit in your message is a delight to this reader.

    Love, Tom B.
