Old Man-January 2, 2008

An old man
with trembling hands,
sad eyes,
and a stories to tell.
From his thin pale lips,
those stories fell,
upon the ears
of his youthful grandchildren,
surrounding and leaning in
into him.
His chair creaks
as he speaks
of all
all that he
he can recall...
He had been unable
unable to smile,
for so very long...
until these youngsters
came to his side,
wide eyed,
and listening so intently.
His voice like gravel,
yet so gentle
and sincere...
"Now listen,
listen here..."
He begins to spill
another story
upon every perched ear...
and rocked as he spoke...
An old man
with trembling hands,
sad eyes
and a story to tell
becomes younger himself
and delighted as well,
as every one of his stories fell,
upon every youthful ear.
