The path of Night

I have journeyed through the darkness
wandered on the wings of night
felt the stroke of anguished breezes
suffered from the lack of light

I have struggled over mountains
forged rivers - while immersed in gloom
felt my soul cascade like lost-stars
ached for buds that never bloomed

I have given of my essence
stood an eager lamb, at slaughter
felt my spirit drenched in death
knew that hell could be no hotter

I have knelt and prayed to God
Soaked the ground I bled upon
stumbled blindly - howling curses
… just to reach the rays of dawn.

In different parts of the world the night is different.
In the land of the midnight sun the night is six months long.
In the land of evening mists, the jungle brings night early.
In the land of waterless wastes, the evening harkens a beautiful sunset.

All over the world the night runs without stop. Bringing evening splendor and the dawn of morning glow. Yet in your poem, the night is a journey. An experience not to be avoided.

    Thanks

    Awesome

Fantastic! You really captured and exemplified my own "take" on this wonderful quotation. Through unerring rhyme and beautifully measured meter, you have mapped your "dark night of the soul", and given us, in that last line, hope to get us through our own. I am honored and humbled to have in any way been part of what inspired this work. Thanks so much for entering. I think I may need divine assistance to judge this contest. *rose*

I like this Angel. I've been there. This quote was the other one I was tempted to use. It's the valleys of life that make us appreciate the mountaintops. Keep focusing on God. The strength we need to make it from day to day comes from him.

I pray that no matter what bumps, hills and potholes life tosses in your way, that you will continue to find Christ at the center of it all.
