Super Bowl XLII ,.............sad sad day.......................

6:17, game time, sat down and turned on 52 inches of anxiety
Eyes went for a throw and tossed a good luck wink to my man beside me

Watched a flick of silver toss like lettuce in the air
Landed upon the palm of revelation as rivals prepared

Sweat rained on the game covering the field like grains of sand
Emotions huddled into plays as fans became their own band

Accomplishment rested on shoulders with thickness broader than pads
First undefeated team since 72, this was just one more game to add

They tackled promises and refused to fumble over their careers
They intercepted reality and sprayed skills through the air

Played Hop scotch over the defense until their territory was claimed
Threw the ball up like a salute as victory was proclaimed

    Things were looking good.......

                                      Until.................

Possession was robbed from these record breaking reasons
Doubt wrapped them in layers as spirits changed like the seasons

Bombs were passed through air as coaches dripped self esteem
Saw their hopes spin circular into the hands of the opposing dream

They flagged silent penalties through the yardage in their minds
Knew there was no path to safety as confidence went blind

Watched a quarterback fight his demons and break free with success
letters fell from players mouths, and they spelled out “Burress”

Tears hid behind plastic veils as hearts ached behind numbers
Adrenaline ran out of bounds as they got fitted for failures slumber

Fighting to retain Patriotic hope they watched Giant stars light up the sky
I shoveled my head from the ditch and pressed power with a “sigh

……………………………………………………"better luck next year boys”

Author notes

Obviously I am still recovering from the Patriots loss on Sunday........But I am confident we will finish the job next year .

I'm a huge Patriots fan. I've had season tickets along with nine other people in my family for over 10 years (Since I was 6)

Our seats are 4 rows back from the right endzone. Yeah, we've had our great seasons, and our bad seasons. But this past season was amazing. We'll finish the job next year.

Great piece overall, and I'll be very excited to read another piece like this with a better ending...An undefeated season with another PATRIOTS SUPERBOWL RING!

loved this power added to words through the vision of hopes and dreams, unfortunately those dreams and hopes for "them" were crushed! We live!...the GIANTS live!
this piece was excellently put together for several reason, however the obvious one stands out first...lol! thank you for dedicating this piece to the New World CHAMPS...the New York Giants!!!!!...cheers and applauds...yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!
