Down in the garden where the vegetables grow
Safe from the farmer, the plow and the hoe
Under the willow, so stately and tall
Live the Mooshies, one and all
Little Ruftal, dainty and sweet
Their gourd house is hers to clean and sweep
Proud old Grandfather goes by with his cane
Glancing at Grammy out in the rain
Mischievious Nutkin plays in the rooms
Teasing Ruftal by hiding her broom
Then there's Aunty Gilly, proper and prim
Keeping their clothes all neat as pins
Many generations have come and gone
Still the gourd patch represents home
With their neighbors they live and have fun
But they quiver in fear when the cats come
What are the Mooshies you ask with a grin
There’s one on your shoulder, go on, ask him
They have silver hair on head and chest
And if you ask, they like mead the best
Their adventures are tiny and not known to us
But danger still lurks if they’re out after dusk
I found the Mooshies quite by mistake
I was passing by as they swam in the lake
Oh the tales I could tell you of them
The exploits they’ve had and the places we’ve been
But my time here has ended again
I’m on my way to the lake and my friends
I’m sorry I have to ask you to go
But they are cautious of strange people you know
Perhaps the next time when you come
I’ll introduce you over tea and crumbs
