The worst valentine

The worst valentine

The first valentine I ever had
was such a disaster that I knew
I had to run back home, it was so bad
my Mum was mad “Look what they did to you!”

You see, there was this boy I had a crush on
I thought he liked me too. I was a fool.
I later felt my self-esteem was gone.
How could I face the kid’s again at school?

I went to him and told how much I care
and gave him a card that said "I love you" on it.
He laughed and called his friends over to stare.
They called me names and some began to spit.

They pushed and shoved me back and forth real bad
the kid’s all crowded round and jeered  aloud.
I slipped and fell onto the ground. That cad
just stood there smirking, hid behind the crowd.

The teachers came to see what they could do.
The kid’s all ran away and left me there.
My knee was bleeding really badly too
but I ran home so fast I didn’t care.

I stayed a week at home to heal my soul
and then with head held high I walked right back
into the room. I kept my self-control.
Their heads hung low in shame and so did Jack.

You learn to hold your head up high and smile
and never ever let them see you cry.
Just keep control and you'll see in awhile,
respect returns to you as days go by.

Author notes

Don’t worry this story's not true, just something my muse had me write.

It does go on I know and sometimes valentines day never turns out the way you expect. I know this is out of my norm, but it needs to be said, I guess

because we’ve had some incidents in our street lately with young teenagers

creating havoc, kicking cars, breaking into them, scaring residents trying stand over tactics. And this used to be a very quiet street.

    Excellent!

There I was all boiling mad that someone would do that to you and thinking that he probably wishes now that he had known what a catch you would have been--thinking that he would like to be in Bob's shoes when I read that it isn't true. Now I don't have anything to write and can't think of a thing to say. Oh well maybe I will do better on the next one of yours that I read.

Joan, you hit the nail on the head! Ouch! This story gets repeated throughout schools all over the world. I remember my first crush, my pretty Valentine box, and the chubby boy I had this puppy-love crush on. I hand-made his card, and when I opened my box, he was the ONLY boy in the class who didn't send me one of those generic cards. I cried for a week. Your muse is sharp and your poem well done!

    Dear Joan,

So glad this didn't happen to you! Unrequited love is hard enough to bear without having your peers' jeers to deal with, too!

Sorry to hear your once quiet street has lost its peace due to the antics of unrestrained juveniles. I hope the police have been notified and have begun patroling your street. That's what our neighbor did when he was being harassed by unruly teenagers. We also have a "Crime Watch" sign posted in our neighborhood now. It's sad and worrisome that so many of today's youth have so little respect for others' privacy and property.

    Love and Hugs,
    Maureen

Sure tell me it's not true at the end, after I'll gotten my burrs all in a cockle (no idea what that means, lol)
and was as angry as a podge in a mud hole (again...no idea)

But one thing you show...just how mean and miserable some kids/teens are. I've known a few fine ones, exceptional ones, but I've known some pretty much worthless ones too...but often, so were their parents...I know...I'm mean.

Sad thing is...you know this story has happened to people before...what's that bumper sticker I've seen around, "Mean people suck."

    They do.

    Dear Bea,

I relate to this as the same thing happened to me at primary school (Fendalton Open-Air School or FOAS).
I had a crush on this girl Shirley Milne (well, who wouldn't with her waist-length blonde hair?) at the age of four. (She was much older than me being five!) Anyway the teacher had put her next to me at one of those double desks so, as I learned to write I could pass notes across to her.
Now Paul Chisholm was jealous of me sat beside Shirley. He sat at a desk behind her and used to pull her hair when teacher was looking the other way. Even at that age he was a sneaky little rat. Well one day he reached forward and grabbed a note I had just passed to Shirley on which I'd written:

    "I love your yellow hair
I love your eyes of blue
    I'll follow anywhere
    or venture anything for you...."

Well, Paul couldn't wait till next playtime to get a bunch of equally sneaky cronies together and they all started chanting my poem jeeringly and prancing around the playground. I double dared him to stand and fight me like a man but then the bell rang which saved his life.
Your poem reminds me of all that. I often wonder what happened to Shirley but couldn't care less about Paul.
Applause for your poem, and lots of love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

I was about to be indignant, when I read your note. It's still pretty bad about the way neighbourhoods become less safe and quiet.
"You learn to hold your head up high and smile
and never ever let them see you cry."
It happens to adults too, and crying on shoulders is only for friends.
    Beaut entry, good luck!

OHHHH AJ, when I first read this I thought it was about you! I'm so pleased that it's not. But as you say, it does happen and some teenager's are getting out of hand.
    Very nicely said AJ.
    Love Hine

Dear AJ, I too am pleased to find out it's not about you. What a terrible thing to have happen, I know it goes on, it must be pretty horrific.
    A great poem to read.
    Love Jen.
