it didn't happen,
just rumours.
so long ago...
why even care?
no concern of ours
... forget!
forget the Nazis,
forget the Jews
who died for no reason.
close your eyes
so you can't see
suffering, crime,
gas chambers,
piles of dead.
pretend that
everything's all right.
live in peace.

The most stunning war memorial I have ever seen was at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in upper Manhattan - a pile of all the eye glasses confiscated from the Jews. How was your Tag der Deutschen Einheit?

Thanks for your comment!
I had a nice day, although it wasn't any different from any other day with schulfrei...
I think Edna would say that we haven't even reached the complete "Einheit" yet - think of Germany's borders in 1939...

Well
As an avid reader of WW2 I do know it did happen and it needs to be retold. Especially today when there are many in those 3rd world countries with similar ideas. Sadly revisionist history will eventually erase that tragedy from being until it happens once again. That is unless those strong take a stand.

I once went to one of those work camps in germany, and saw the truth behind all the stories and facts that you learn in history class at school. It was horrible, and I had nightmares for weeks after I left that place. I'm glad that my country wasn't involved with the nazis, though I think we're all guilty of what happened. Oh well, enough with the preaching - I love this piece. It brought out a lot in me, since the stories from germany always haunted me.

I've been to Buchenwald twice, which was a horrible (but maybe necessary?) experience. We should never forget the horrors of the past, or they will repeat one day... One should probably start worrying now that NPD (Neo Nazi Party) has made it into some of the federal governments in Germany...
I've had pebbles and such things thrown at me when I was younger by the way...
