Once Was, Now AM

I once was,
The one who crouched in the corner,
Crying tears that tasted of sea,
Because of the kicks, I received.

I once was,
The one who saw the television show,
The ones, which had girls with tiny bodies,
Watch in fixation, wishing that were me.

I once was,
The one who changed herself,
To fit with the newest crazes and fashions,
Until I became unrecognizable.

Now I am,
Willing to stand up for what is right.
Proud of how I stand, how I talk and how I look.
Gone are the days are watching telly, wishing the girls on the show were me,
Fact is that will never happen.

Now take me for who is,
Not for what I could become,
I do not mind if you do not like my hair or the way I look.
Accept it, this is me.
I once was that..
Now I am this.

"Now take me for who is,
Not for what I could become..."

Wow...this is such a powerful testament of your being...an affirmation that indeed you are beautiful no matter what other people say or what other people expect you to be...this such a very captivating write!

I love it. I think a lot of people feel that way at least at one point in their childhood. Well done.

I have just one criticism. In line 27(?)I think it would sound better if it said " Gone are the days OF watching telly" as opposed to "...ARE watching telly".

Oh I loved this piece. I loved the comparison and I am glad you found the strength to accept yourself for who you are. "Now take me for who is," i think this is grammatically incorrect. It should be "Now take me for who I am." I think the last 2 lines would add a better punch if th you took out the extra words and just said, "I once was, but now I am." thank you for entering and good luck in my contest.
