Admiral Lord Nelson

Admiral Lord Nelson

The man is a legend, the story be told,
the day his armada set out to sea.
His powerful ships, a thing to behold,
protecting the seas to keep England free.

The day his armada set out to sea.
He laid down his life commanding the fleet,
protecting the seas to keep England free,
the British armada was the elite.

He laid down his life commanding the fleet,
he gave all he had and answered the call.
The English armada was the elite.
His title of “Lord” ‘twas then protocol.

He gave all he had and answered the call.
until he lay down upon his death bed.
His title of “Lord” ‘twas then protocol,
A leader of men so let it be said.

Until he lay down upon his death bed,
Admiral Lord Nelson a standard he set.
A leader of men so let it be said.
Giving us pride we will never forget.

Admiral Lord Nelson a standard he set.
The man is a legend, the story be told,
giving us pride we will never forget,
his powerful ships a thing to behold.

Author notes

Option #1
Pantoum Poetry
The pantoum consists of a series of quatrains rhyming ABAB in which the second and fourth lines of a quatrain recur as the first and third lines in the succeeding quatrain; each quatrain introduces a new second rhyme as BCBC, CDCD. The first line of the series recurs as the last line of the closing quatrain, and third line of the poem recurs as the second line of the closing quatrain, rhyming ZAZA.

The design is simple:

Line 1
Line 2
Line 3
Line 4

Line 5 (repeat of line 2)
Line 6
Line 7 (repeat of line 4)
Line 8

Continue with as many stanzas as you wish, but the ending stanza then repeats the second and fourth lines of the previous stanza (as its first and third lines), and also repeats the third line of the first stanza, as its second line, and the first line of the first stanza as its fourth. So the first line of the poem is also the last.

Last stanza:

Line 2 of previous stanza
Line 3 of first stanza
Line 4 of previous stanza
Line 1 of first stanza

Great use of the form. Storytelling in poetry is a delightful thing, and you are becoming one of the best on AP. This is outstanding. It captures the history, the character, the mood, and all in a perfectly crafted form Kudos.

Beautiful write, Sis with wonderful poetic form, as always. You are so talented. Lots of imagery in this piece and I liked how the words flowed. They seemed to tell a story, like making the words come alive on the page. Best of luck in the contest.

I tried this form in 7th grade and I gave up after the first stanza. I don't know how you manage to pen so many perfect perfect poems. I've always loved this form; the repitions of the lines are so cool. Great job. I love it! Exspecially the second and last stanzas. They are my favorite.
