Soggy

Frayed edges and undersides
seeping in street dirt and sludge.
Bleached whites, now grey.
Stewed in sole-dye, cracked rubber,
car-mat juices, road salt and the bits of shingle
that melted down brick to lay dead
on concrete with the snow.
I prop my winter hostage
appendages on radiator edges
defrosting one pointy bit at a time.
Wrapped up in blanket edges,
the creases of couch cushions,
in wool, in cotton, in poly-blend synthetics…
just for a few moments of blissful warmth.
Longing for naked and the heat
of mid-summer day sidewalk soaks.

My feet haven’t been dry in a week,
this stupid town doesn’t plow,
and I sweat in waterproof boots.
Cruel Irony.

Please tell me what you think

if u ever figure out what kind of boots work best for winter, let me know. if they're comfortable, they get wet and cold. If they're warm, they're bulky and ultimately ... soggy.
