The City Park

There is so much pleasure

taking a walk through the city park

The landscaped area surrounds me

with the sound of an occasional bark

The curved sidewalks are well maintained

the lawn is manicured couldn't you tell

A gazebo boldly stands in the center

a few feet away a charming wishing well

The huge green trees seem to talk

as they have many stories to tell

Of the couples that hold hands and linger

throwing a coin in the wishing well

Children laughing and playing in the fountain

express emotions and joyful sounds of glee

Shouting and chasing each other

enjoying their youth and just feeling free

There is some outdoor art

placed strategically to be found

A granite bench is astounding

with huge eyes that follow you around

An assortment of flowers are blooming

the fragrance of each will sustain

The mind of a poet in his writing

about flowers, the sun and the rain

My adventurous walk in the city park

has held my attention in dismay

The ever changing pattern of nature

creates a new painting each day

In anticipation of returning soon

and enjoying the city park on another day

Peace and contentment remain in my memory

while merrily continuing along my way
