I couldn't reach you my special friend
your mind, lost in a deep, dark hole
though I tried with love and understanding
to remember the real beauty in your soul.
For so long you suffered alone,
desperate to find an escape from pain.
Still time after time there never seemed to be
any sunshine after the rain.
The moment I heard that you ended it all
My mind was filled with regret.
Memories overtook my heart and soul
I vowed to never forget.
To find a way to tell you my thoughts
was my hearts last only desire.
So I wrote it all down on scented paper
And threw it right into the fire.
Each flame's dance dries the tears from my eyes
knowing spirits bright darkness stores
the hope that smoke will carry the love
from my broken heart to yours.
Author notes
My closest friend took her own life also. I found writing a letter to her and burning it was a good way of healing much of the pain and confusion I had over her death.
