Waiting

As unfortunate as things are
I doubt unfortunate is an accurate term,
To be unfortunate is to lessen your take on luck
yet luck had never had interest in me,

Months before I was in a home,
mingling,
laughing,
talking,
moving,
but now I lie still,
motionless to the eye,

Life is still lingering in me
but only battered pieces remain,

Oh the sights I saw,
All magnificent and pure
Even the dullest of views
still had a little hint of color,
unlike the grey tiles I forbiddenly view
each and ever waking minute
Until the sun dies out
inwhich I am engulfed in the very darkness
that brought me pain and suffering,

Lying motionless,
forced to stare at the same agonizing
spot,
Knowing fully of what is to come,
A sad and unrenewable loss,

A war,
A violent bloody war,

Some lost families,
Some lost friends,

In war you learn to make friends,
make brothers,
In war the man next to you is all you got,

The draft is what hit us,
No one wanted too,
No one needed too,
It was the draft,

Hundreds of my brothers and I were sent to nowhere,
Nothing for miles,
It was the water that killed us,
the heat,
lack of water,

One by one,
quickly,
once we finished filling in one whole
we started another,

Two days before our leave,
our ticket home,
Only two days before,
Only two days,

We didn't see it coming,
it was in the night,
All those men,
All my brother,

Stripped of my legs and arms,
stabbed in the back,
I laid for 3 days,

Abandoned by all living
surrounded by the dead,
The moaning,
The screaming,
The pain,

It was doomed from the start
and I have no hope of a future,
so here I lie,
waiting,
