Legs by the Million

We soldier across bark in marching lines,
monstrous cuts of bitten leaves arched on
armoured backs.
Legs by the million, we scuttle,
a straight, continuous drill,
shaming you, humankind –
every structured day of ours, for every ignorant day of yours.
Watch our simple, successful regime,
watch us, be in awe of us,
try, even, to imitate us.

For, if we were not vanquished by size, it would be our world,
not yours.

Can you guess what creature I'm writing about? Hint: it's an insect. (Come on, it's not difficult... lol)

Can anyone give me a better title? I'm rubbish at coming up with good titles. At the moment I'm just stuck with a line from the poem itself.

  • OH YEAH, i forget. LUUURRRVE the ending. With big sticky pink hearts x
  • Thats so clever I love the idea, and the use of language. Monstrouscuts of bitten leaves. Yum.
Think about it though Mr. Ant, chaos is what makes humanity so fun the key is balance.
Imagine how boring it'd be to be an ant! Each assigned their own predestined jobs (e.g, workers, soldiers). Each belonging only to the community, not themselves. Functioning as a cell in a single unit. Ha, it sounds just like Brave New World! You should read it, it be goooood... its a futuristic Utopia, but to us readers now it seems like anything BUT utopia. The people there are like ants. They each have a special fuction. Are built according to that function. All exist within the social body, and have little individuality. Indeed. ANYWAY, this was a mossive comment ^.^ and an awesome poem. x

    Ants

Very striking imagery. I really like this poem and I like the title too. I think the repetition of the title in the poem makes it even more effective.
Good luck in getting into The Red!
