My first Valentine
At school when I was eight there was a boy
I liked and knew he liked me as well.
He held my hand, my heart was filled with joy;
to know that Ken was keen made me feel swell.
He was so sweet and oh so shy with me
but when we played outside we had great fun.
We’d play at hide and seek behind the tree.
I’d find another place and off I’d run.
Our days were filled with happiness at play.
School holidays were when I missed him most.
His folks would always plan to go away -
they had a cabin down south near the coast.
When Valentine’s day finally came round
“Jenelda, will you be my Valentine?”
He said it shyly looking at the ground
and in his hand a card and choc’s were mine.
I was so thrilled that he chose me each year.
The gift’s he gave stay in a special place.
Each time I take them out I shed a tear,
remembering the look upon his face.
The years went by, we drifted both apart.
Each of us married someone else you see.
Last week I met him shopping in K-Mart.
He’s still the same as when we both were free.
And now we’ve met again we’ll keep in touch.
First love at any age is always right.
We both enjoyed our meeting very much.
He held my hand once more and squeezed it tight.

Jenelda, you mean you even saved the chocolates! Gosh, I would have eaten them ALL that day! LOL This is a lovely tale, true to the core. LOved the rhyme, and meeting up with him again, was a real treat!

Sweet
Your poem tells a lovely story - it is great to have friends. Even if you each end up marrying someone else, you can share your memories of childhood. I like the gesture of the hands squeezing at the end.
Great entry, good luck!

Dear Jenelda,
When first loves come to meet again
it often is for keeps
for Cupid, though he may have lain,
he never, ever sleeps.
So I wish you all the very best from your reunion with Ken (although I hope it won't affect your castle duties! LOL) And of course, I wish you best of luck in the voting for your splendid poem.
ASpplause, Love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Dear Jen,
It sounds like you and Ken had good times together when you were growing up. And now you've met him again, maybe there's some romance in the air, hmmmm?
A lovely poem my dear.
Love AJ.

Who said you can't go home again? Your friendly meeting at K-Mart proved you can. There are K-Mart's in Australia? Are there WalMarts? There's hope for Moxie there maybe.

It's sweet (and a little sad,) I never had those kinds of memories...all the little girls in my school thought I had cooties.
