I stand witness to the past
but only from afar.
For it is like a blade,
immaculate and sharp.
Able to sever the very roots of my being.
The Earth progresses forward,
leaving the past behind yet
it remains steadfast with a malicious smirk.
The ugliest of beasts in sight of the present.
The present laughs at the peoples' praise of
it's predecessor. He says "I am of the Here and Now.
So tell me, ancient past, what are you?"
And before he could reply, the present drowned him out.
A bombastic, headstrong laughter that erupted into
the cosmos.
And still I stand, refusing to drag myself through
the lengthy mire of bad memories in order to
reach the good.
Thanking God and the stars that Life is ever-changing.

Just imaging past and present in human form and their relationship with each other.

Nice duality. I used to be consumed by the past. Then, I stop letting the future happen "to me" and got mad and took control of things. Once again, you ask questions and draw the reader in with interesting concepts and vivid imagry.

This is a unique write and I enjoyed reading the past and present in their conversation.
Our past surely does affect our future, but we do need to learn from our past in order to improve our present and our future. I enjoyed this creative poem. Thanks for sharing it. Blessings, Patty
