Some say love is knowing
touching, kissing and hugging
yet, for a mother the true knowledge
of love is her child is growing…
Through the first trimester
we experience sickness,
yet, in the glory of what we carry
the morning nausea cannot compare.
Through the second our bodies
began to change, swollen noses, clothes are too small.
Yet, again, this cannot compare to the first time
we feel the flutters of another and smile.
Through our third trimester, we can no longer see our feet,
and we cry over everything and anything,
Yet, the love and excitement of knowing our child,
is soon to come and in our arms, we shall bare a miracle of its own.
Time is now come, sleepless nights
and worry of the pain, which will come,
yet, even this does not compare to the child ,
which we love and anxiously wait…
As we push and push, we tire, yet for this child we so love,
we struggle on and push some more,
determined as a mother and the love for her child
the pain does not compare…
One more push the doctors say…
as you feel the pressure release,
A smile you bare, as quickly as you realize,
that there are no tears to be heard, but those of your own.
From the child you have loved
and cared for so very long.
desperatly you waited for the tears,
You scream out, “Please why is my child not crying”
Some say love is only possible to know
from one, that you have touched and kissed,
One that you can hold in your arms and than love will grow.
But, truth is, only a Mother whom has lost a child.
Knows the true meaning of love…
It does not have to be held or cuddled.
It doesn’t even have to be seen
the loss of a child is a most unbearable thing.
The love continues to grow,
as birthdays come and go,
memories of this child never fade
and all that’s left is a mother…
Waiting…
And….
Waiting…
For her last, breathe to take,
living on hope and floating on dreams;
of her baby again she will meet.
Upon the wings of a dove.
Precious and tender,
mother and child...
the perfect sign of love.
Silent tears lasting through the years.

Poignant & Beautiful
I very much identify with this heartfelt pain you have written of, having buried two of my own children (1971 and 1972); yet, the two who remain have blessed me with grandchildren and, more recently, my first great grandchild!
As you say here, I know I will be reunited with Angelique and Contrina when our dear Lord takes us home with Him! I am so ready for that day.
Well done, dear poet, although there are a few words misspelled and some unnecessary and/or misplaced punctuation. Otherwise, you have taken a very painful event in our lives and given it precious, spiritual beauty along with the reminder that death is not death at all.
Much love in Christ,
BonnieQ

A beautiful and poignant write. Deep expression of emotion. You write with such tenderness in this piece. You capture the love of a mother for her child that she will carry with her until they are reunited vividly in this poem.

That picture melts my heart and the piece you wrote was so moving and heartwrenching. I cannot imagine losing a child anyway, especially in the womb... that seems like such a horrific experience. Well... not that you should need it but good luck in the contest. This was very powerful, dramatic and beautiful.
