Stop

Rushing, walking, running
Running, walking, rushing
We never STOP to look
Never STOP to know

I see a WHITE man on the street
Screaming intolerance at a BLACK man
Because he can't see beyond his own
Hate

What you'll never know
Because you'll never
STOP to know

That same WHITE boy
His blond family
Shot on the street
Gunned down
By a BLACK man
Because they were
in the wrong place
At the wrong time

This tale is not yet at an end
Listen close

What you'll never know
Because you'll never
STOP to know

The BLACK man really just a boy
Nineteen years old
Trying to prove him self
'cause these are kill or be killed
Type of streets
A well off looking family
It never entered his mind they were WHITE
He just meant to rob 'em
Show his friends he could do this
Three shots went off
Bang, bang, BANG
The mother and son ceased to be

What you'll never know
Because you'll never
STOP to know

The BLACK child hung him self in prison
Six days after being convicted
He couldn't live
With knowing
A child and woman were dead
Because of him...no
The streets
Because of the streets

Cue back to our WHITE man
He's dead
Suicide
After he killed
Two BLACK women
Who dared speak up in pride
of their heritage

What you'll never know
Because you'll never
STOP to know

Author notes

I like the idea of this contest. In my opinion, we never stop to see people, see why they do things. So much influences us. If one person were to step up and say "Hey, I don't agree with you...but WHY do you hate this? What has made you so intolerant to certain things?" Maybe, just maybe that person so use to people matching his intolerance with equal intolerance would pause. Would stop to think "Why?"

Maybe, huh?

    Very well written
Basically with words capped it shows that if someone just scanned the poem, they would immediately assume the problem by skin color. But if you read it, you can see the truth.
