The lavender pin

This delicate little ribbon
helps cancers that are hidden.
It helps pay for Macmillan nurse's
who work to help with hope that the

cancer reverses.

This sad disease takes lives away
and has no care for that's its dismay.
Cancer has no barriers it is unfair
it does not stop once its there.
I think they do a worth while job
as if I did this job  today

I would sob the minutes away.

It matters to me this charity
as I have a long family history
living with cancer is so sad to see.

This is very a very moving piece that's filled with courage. It must mean so much to be able to make yourself available to so many. My wife is a nurse and her stories move me deeply. This is too important a topic and piece to be overlooked. Great highlighting of this disease here.

    Superb !!

I can see why this very thoughtful poem won Gold and Bronze and HM, it is simply superb. What a wonderful way to spread the news about Mc Millan Nurses and the good work that they do. Unfortunately I lost my Mom to cancer that was undiagnosed so she didn't have any nurses only me but they do a really worthwhile job and they are very appreciated by the families of cancer sufferers. Thankyou for your wonderful poem and Thankyou for sharing it with me. Take care of yourself. With love and my very best wishes from Rose xxx for you xx

Wow! this is wonderful! I love what you are doing, by making people aware of cancer and its' damaging effects...Keep up the good fight, maralisa! I will pray for you and your family. ( I just survived cervical cancer this past year, and am well aware of how it affects the body and the harsh treatments.) You're right, cancer does not care how old you are, or what background you come from.

The rhyme in this was good although it felt a little forced to me. Still, a beautiful poem about a wonderful cause and a very sad disease. One thing that I do find strange though is the title, I always thought that breast cancer awareness ribbons were pink.

    Thanks for entering.

This was well written. I had cervical cancer. So this poem hits home. I also have a brain tumor, which I have suffered from since the age of 12. I have had two surgeries. One they placed a shunt in & the second they had to revise it. I am still healing from my second one which was done on June 6th of this year. I don't know why but the second one was the hardest. I am sorry that your Mom has breast cancer. My Mom had a lump removed & had thyroid cancer. So it seems to run in my family as well as yours. Blessed Be! If you ever want to talk IM me, I will always be there for you. ~~Iridessa MoonFlower~~

    Outstanding

Cancer is such a difficult disease to deal with. My sister had cancer and she took a while to get better though she has recovered- she now works with terminal cancer patients helping them to die pain free and with dignity. I thought this was an excellent poem that really brought the message home we should be supporting people like the macmillan nurses as they do such a good job. An excellent poem that raises awareness.

I don't believe I have ever read anything that seemed so knowledgable. It is sad to have seen so much of cancer. Your pain from this is quite evident in your words. This poem reminded me to add a prayer for those with cancer and their families every night. I think this is very powerful. It even brought tears to my eyes. It flowed so well it was easy to read. I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sorry that cancer plagues your family.

I hate how, like Huntress said, cancer is so in-discriminative and can affect good, loving people who don't deserve such horrible things; I'm not saying that anyone deserves cancer... I'm just saying it's a shame that it happens to such beautiful people sometimes.

Tale care, and, this is an amazing poem... keep on writing... Laura.

I thought that this was really good. Great piece of writing. Well done for this. My family too have a history of cancer. My dear father passed away from it, in the year 2000. I have a theory about such cancer charities though. For 50 - 60 years people have been giving money for cancer research, 50-60 YEARS and yet, we are no nearer finding a cure??? My theory is this, I believe that a cure HAS been found for cancer, but that the relative medical authorities will not put it out on the public market because it would then mean so many companies 'going to the wall'.

A cure would bankrupt certain medical foundations. I have always thought this, simply because within all of those 50 to 60 years of research, no one can say to me that they HAVE NOT FOUND A CURE YET?? It is very strange.

Yes, we have found ways to alleviate certain cancers, but as yet, as they tell us, no cure? I don't believe that. My father and millions of others have died horrifically because of this terrible plague and yet the medical professions still say they are no nearer to finding a complete cure?

You have to stop and think then, WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY THAT PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN TO CANCER RESEARCH, WHERE IS IT? AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH IT?

Thank you for this piece as I can see why it won gold.
But ask yourself the question that I have just posed, and think deeply about it.
