Over the water
I pour more from the carafe
I fill the tub up
Stepping in
One bloody foot at a time
Into the water
I sink into the calm
I cover each exposure
All of me
Filled with liquid convenience
Surrounded by this water
I remember how filthy I am
I quietly clean the filth
And surrender
To the suffocation within me
I pour more from the carafe
I fill the tub up
Stepping in
One bloody foot at a time
Into the water
I sink into the calm
I cover each exposure
All of me
Filled with liquid convenience
Surrounded by this water
I remember how filthy I am
I quietly clean the filth
And surrender
To the suffocation within me
Author notes
"A man destined to hang can never drown; a man destined to burn can never drown; a man destined to hang can never ever die in any other way. Lucky I'm dying by hanging and not drowning. So now that we got that straight can't I just be left alone? I want to take a fucking bath." - Regina Spektor

This is dark but very well-constructed with vivid imagery. I really like the fact that you used the word 'carafe'. I mean... who even uses that word anymore? Awesome. You do. Also, that last stanza really pulls it all together:
"Surrounded by this water
I remember how filthy I am"
P.S. - The author notes are great!
