I woke up this morning, threw back the covers,
got out of my nice warm bed.
For this I am thankful!
Some people shiver on a cold, damp, bare floor.
I turned on the light, and looked all around me.
Behold four walls and a roof over my head.
For this I am thankful!
Some people live on the streets having no shelter from the storm.
I looked through my closet, picked out what to wear.
Put on nice clean clothes and brushed my hair.
For this I am thankful!
Some people only have one thing and it is tattered and torn.
I fixed myself some breakfast, packed me a lunch,
because I have food to eat and something to drink.
For this I am thankful!
Some people go for days without a bite to eat.
I have parents who love me and raised me to love God.
They clothed me and fed me, they loved me beyond compare.
For this I am thankful!
Some people are neglected and abused.
I have a church to go to, where where I learn about God.
God who's only Son died upon a cross so I can go to heaven.
For this I am thankful!
Some people have never heard the truth that God loves them.
I have family and friends who care about me.
Children and a husband that I love deeply.
For this I am thankful!
Some people sit all alone because no one cares.
I have a car to drive and places to go.
A coat to wear that blocks out the cold.
For this I am thankful!
Some people freeze as they walk to and fro.
I have arthritis, allergies and diabetes.
At least I know what's wrong with me and I can treat these.
For this I am thankful!
Some people die from illnesses unknown.
I have sight that is not clear but I can see though it is blurred.
I walk kind of slow, sometimes with a limp.
For this I am thankful!
Some people are blind and some can't walk at all.
I have homework to do because I'm going to school again.
I have a chance to make a better life for me.
For this I am thankful!
Some people can't even read or write their name.
I live in America the land of the free.
Free to worship, to speak, and dress as I please.
For this I am thankful!
Some people are beaten or kill for doing these things.
I served in the Ari Force by freedom of choice.
After my time, I choose to get out.
For this I am thankful!
Some people are taken made to serve by force.
The elections are coming, I can vote for who I please.
The choice is mine, another freedom given to me.
For this I am thankful!
Some people live in countries ruled by dictators.
I'm sure I could go on and on with some more.
To realize I have nothing to grumble about.
For this I am thankful!
Some people only grumble, can't see what they have.
Thank you for this chance to look over my life.
For truly I am blessed in this life here on earth.
For this I am thankful!
Some people never take the time to see.
Author notes
sometimes I think my life isn't so good just because things aren't going the way I think it should. Thank you for this chance to see how I am really blessed.

Everything about this is wonderful, the reader does not tire of your positive look and attitude, I could listen to you list these wonderful things forever. Also, to be attuned to the minute details of life, and realize that some do not even have what is necessary, that is truly to know how to give thanks. God Bless, thanks for the wonderful entry.

True! True!
So refreshing to see that someone is counting their blessings instead of grumping about and making everyone else as miserable as they are! Amen Sister!

WE all have a lot to be thankful for but you see the blessings many of us ignore wanting waht we don't have
rather than enjoying what we already have..good poem -
We all have more blessings than we realize. Life is a pinnacle of beauty we see and feel in our hearts.

Reading this made me realize that I need to be thankful for what I have in life, no matter how hard the things I am facing seem to be, becacuse their are so many people out there everyday facing battles bigger than mine. Great job. Keep up the good writing

I'm thankful to have met you on this site, Your right I'm bless with a great family and friends, I thank God for that.Ilove your poem thank you

this was very nice
I thought the repetition of "For this I am thankful!" in each stanza was wonderfully done and you made many great points.
In the second to last stanza, "country's" should be "countries"... otherwise, very well written.
I love how you found so much inspiration from this contest. I know that gratitude can make such a difference in our lives. If we all stopped to think about everything we should be thankful for, I believe we'd have less suicide, depression, divorce, etc.
I'm happy to see you agree.
Thank you so much for entering this wonderful piece, and for serving our country.

you really wrote a strong and powerful poem about gratitude. I think if all of us looked into out lives, we can find that when we think we have it bad someone always has it worse...best to you in the contest ~blessings always~ Trisha
