My eyes seek out love
in forbidden places of doom.
Darkness is my silhouette
of familiarity.
I walk the barren streets
of loneliness and melancholy
looking for my dream.
She's as elusive as my
hearts rendering of her.
I chastise my emotions
with bleak hopes of success.
Knowing full well that she
is an anomaly.
I imagine her as the
personification of sweetness.
Soothing as the ethereal melodies
of nightingales in spring.
I'm enchanted by this apparition
of my own creation.
A flawless jewel of magnificence
descended from the gods.
Her spirit haunts all my
waking hours of reflection.
As I've been set on a path
of madness by the inner calling
of my discontented soul.

Yes, looking for our dreams on the streets of melancholy can be a long dark night in the soul...a long travel through our madness and discontent. Great poem.
