Thin As A Ghost

What’s wrong with a little meat
around the human bones nowdays?
I see with my optic lenses
People wasting away
To squeeze into subzero size jeans.

Jogging 6 marathons a day
without drinking fluids
but consuming 0.03 microns
of a calorie in a day
so to feel nice and slim.
Looking slimmer than paper,
sufficient slim enough to bend
with the waves of wind
pouncing against the flesh

People living day to day
like floating ghost
with simple skeletal structures
and no visible organs
as the seemingly accepted
standard of beauty

Billions of people
that cross my path
but all I see is the denim
from those subzero size jeans
The rest have simply faded
with the background.

Please tell me what you think

    A great piece well written.
It's sad but true that so many young women these days have an unhealthy desire to be skeletaly thin. The pressure is so easy to give in to, and this piece is a great reminder to all that it's a ridiculous aspiration. People should just be happy and healthy, and not worry about living up to media stereotypes.

Great piece. Well done for tackling the subject!

i used to think this was how I wanted to be...i've never been skinny, but as the years went on i've accepted myself for who i am. why change yourself, keep yourself unhappy, just to look appealing in someone elses eyes? great write!

I agree 100%, my friend...It is sad....I don't mind my curves....I feel there is nothing wrong with looking like a woman.....I feel very sad about this because the younger generation feels that they have to live up to what they see on Television and in magazines so normal healthy beautiful young ladies feel that they are fat.It is scary...
TY for bringing this to light in this wonderful poem..

This poem is excellent and reminds me...

I need to go for my daily exercise! HAHAHA!! Well, it's good to go for a walk and anyway, I will never be pencil thin. I would not want to slip through a storm grate. Your poem is brilliant, true and fine. I love the lines about "all I see is the denim from those subzero size jeans.." Yes, there's only bones under the fabric. I would love to hug you for reals.

A while back I had this very conversation with a very dear friend of mine. We both see things this way too. And it all started because I said something about needing to lose about 20 lbs. for health reasons. But I don't want to be soooo tiny that I blow away with the wind you know.

Anyways you did a great job on this one.
