I sit here in the dark of night
And let slip these words I love
That gather amber candlelight
As they swirl through the air above.
They touch my tongue so trippingly
When out loud each one I say
And grace the air so fleetingly
Then to paper make their way.
They come from somewhere deep inside
All unbidden they arrive
Fully formed in my pen they ride
Flowing from me as if alive.
They live their lives within the page
Born again as they are read
And thus they travel through an age
Over spans of time none tread.
These words that came from long ago
I will now pass on to you
And where you are they too will go
As you pass them on anew.
These words you carry through your life
Remember where from they came
Fully formed in the dark of night,
Gathered in the candles’ flame.
But though I might not ever know
How these words will outlive time
I know these seeds which I now sow
Will forever be known as mine.
A part of me with them still lives
I feel it and know it must
These words to you myself will give
When I be consigned to dust.
So treat them well and lovingly
When you bandy them about
And speak them clear and trippingly
Don’t ever mumble them or shout.
For I have writ them with much care
You should ever show the same
I wrote these words my soul to bare
William Shakespeare is my name.

This is wonderful, the idea of an April Fool's Folio. The language is quite Shakespearian and I like the way "Will" muses on the nature of poetry and writing.
The only thing I would fault is a bit of unevenness in the flow. Otherwise, it's very well done.
Thank you for submitting it to my contest.

Yes, you channel! This IS our immortality. The legacy we pass on, even if only to a few down the road. You continue to awe and amaze me. I am simply enraptured with your talented pen.
Blessed be,
Billie Jean

amazing...
I think old Will would be proud!
Back to your old rhyming ways - and I must say, I can't decide whether I like your old-fashioned, rhyming style, or your new snazzy free-verse... difficult decision because you excel at both.
An enjoyable read.

A very intriguing piece of thought composed within these lines. Thoughtful, and endearing of the words to be cherished. I love the thought of candlelight woven into inspiration... The ending was indeed unexpected, but made for an excellent tale of sorts. Great write!
