The deep voice getting louder as he steps closer to you inch by inch.
He is carrying a belt, snapping it as he crunches on the leaves below him.
Your head lowers, you begin to tremble, you know what is next.
The belt raised then lowered in malicious force, he strikes.
Whimpering faintly you cower your way to the corner of the room.
Once again you hear that voice, furious rage, he drags you by the fur
Pulling you away from your safe haven he strikes again, this time
with his foot, the force of the blow knocks your helpless body.
The man demands to get into the car, you will be leaving now.
The shelter, the smell of urine, feces, and mold.
Metal gate crashes, cold pavement is now your safe haven
Your time is up, they get the gas chamber ready.
The next day a girl walks in and walks from kennel to kennel.
There she is in front of you, staring as you lie in mere death.
Her soft voice grasps your attention you slowly lift your head.
A gentle hand reaches out, you begin to shake and tremble.
Grabbing a leash she takes you out of the concrete prison.
Outside the rays of the beautiful sun beats down on your matted fur.
Feeling serenity and peace you jump into the girls car.
I say to him, I am your angel Buddy and you are free.

Wow, I loved all of the emotion in this poem. Especially how you used the lines:
A gentle hand reaches out, you begin to shake and tremble.,
because dog's that are abused are usually afraid of humans at first. I loved the ending, it's almost like telling a dog that not all things are bad, and if they could read, they might understand they do have a chance at happiness, and all animals should, though often, this is not the case, and that is just sad. I remember when we had to give our lab, blacky, away, and now he lives with an elderly woman, which is good because he never liked to play much anyway, but even thought I know he is in a good home, I still miss him. Anyway, this is an amazing piece here.
