A Dream as a Mystical Cowrie

Getting lost in the hedge maze of unthinkable dreams.
I’ve been trying to get back to sleep.
I awoke with a feeling without knowing what it means.
The electric white light shines
Green on the lush grey pavement.
When I came to I felt different from the day before,
Caught up in elation I could not explain
As fantastic as an old pirate ship,
Gaily painted in the afternoon sun
And the sun would set in pink and orange ribbons
And would rise again in the clearest of blue.
The depth of feeling was a battered old coat,
As old and as fragrant as a grandmother’s herbs.
But the sense of longing was broad and fey
I wanted to go back there, so I could dance once again.
Fell inadequacy of a life less well lived.
I made a promise in my sheets;
‘Today I will begin again’.
In the hope that someday I’ll be given dowry
By the firing of synapses, winsome and cloudy.
Then maybe I’ll share with you my gallant coat
And I’ll take you out on my golden boat.
And I’ll whisper all the minute details.
Been waltzing with the pouring rain.
