Yes, the things you don’t forget.
Decisions you have made;
The price that you have paid
you won’t forget.
You second guess
all that led to your duress.
You let your mind drift
and you think "Only If"
you acted for the best.
Regrets will haunt you
and weigh upon you.
The longer that you live,
the things hardest to forgive
are still within you.
Regrettable choices
with angry raised voices.
If you could go back in time
in another frame of mind,
you'd make better choices.
You can try to disguise them
but, you really can't hide them.
They are there, deep inside--
Some bring tears to your eyes
and your memory will find them.
Impacted identities
bring regrettable memories.
Though, the years have passed,
the regrets still last
to shadow your reveries.
Author notes
Regrets--I think all of us have done or said things that we are sorry for and wished we had a chance to do it all over again and make better choices.

This is all true
Very well written and meaningful poem

I am only 21 years old, however, I feel so much regret from the past few years, it hurts. I am not where I should be in life...I should be happy and carefree...I am young of course, but I wonder everyday, "Only if"....This is a beautiful poem. I recently wrote a regret poem,(the first poem I have written in years) but it is not as good as yours!
-
So true and to face some truths as you look back ,wonder if one could have done better
in their choices, but you live and learn by past mistakes as you so finely penned, thank you for sharing
good luck in the contest

A powerful write. Regret is a very painful emotion. It leaves a pang within so deep. I was blessed with release from the Lord...I praise Him for taking it away from me and replacing it with forgiveness. Awesome write.

Yeah...regrets...so many different things come to mind, but the easiest way to get past regrets is to remember that at one point in tie everything you did was exacly what you wanted
-
Ah regrets. A time machine to go back and make a " do-over." We all have them but I try very hard to learn from the things I regret turning it into a life lesson instead! Not an easy thing to do! Good job with this subject! You made me think this morning!

In-grettable !!!
I would've regretted not having to read this... or something like that. My sense of humor is rather warped a bit... but yes... your work here is incredible

I relate to this poem very much. I used to be so haunted with certain regrets. Thankfully, I have been able to give them up, one by one, and start to let myself off the hook. I am no more imperfect than the next guy. If I can forgive others of their faults and the mistakes they regret...I should be able to let my own go, too. I hope you get to that point...or have already gotten there. I know that I can still get blindsided with the pain of a regret that I suddenly find out still needs to be worked on.

I just wanted to thank you for the comment you left on my poem, "When I am not with you". I just read this poem, and I truly can relate to it. I have many many regrets and I am left feeling extremely shameful. This is a wonderful poem. I enjoyed every line of it.

Yes we all can hun
We can step back in time, turn it back for that moment and rephrase the words we may have said or used.
Yet we can also learn from this, change our ways, as regrets are lessons taught
Julie -
you said a mouth full with this poem
i know i have been quilty
good message

I am learning to have no regrets! They are too painful. You cannot undo the past. I choose to learn from my mistakes, not regret them. Your piece speaks to me, now.
-
This again, simply amazing ... I don't regret ANYTHING ... I learn from my mistakes ... your past is your past and it is what makes you who you are today ... I believe that strongly ... There is no time for regrets ... you then only live in the pity and the past ... in order to move on ... you accept what you have done ... and learn from it ... move to the next page in your life ... for if you stick to the same page ... your book will never be complete ... thank you for sharing this ... it was simply beautiful ... and a wonderful form of poetry!
