"Utopian Discovery"

Missing image
When I was younger, in my prime,
I used to daydream, to pass the time
of tropic isles; Distant lands
with bending palms and sun-bleached sands.

Island girls with long, black hair
in flowery fields to scent the air.
Tropic sunsets with colors bright
preclude the diamond stars of night.

Gentle waves kiss the coral beach.
Volcanic peaks; The clouds to reach.
All these were imagined scenes;
I found them in the Philippines.

This land once was a battleground,
But now, a paradise I found.
Memories of war, one can't erase,
but the people wear a smiling face.

They're generous, kind and eager to please.
A land to grace the Pacific seas.
The long-haired girl with sparkling eye;
Her beauty, no one can deny.

With mountains, lakes and other sights,
to cities with their glowing lights.
These once were imagined dreams
My 'Dream come True'--The 'Philippines'!

What a beautiful poem and tribute to the
Philippines and its people! I still have yet
to visit the Philippines as it is where my all
of my family is from. I look forward to going
there someday and am glad that you entered
this poem into my contest. I really enjoyed
reading it and the imagery that I found as I
read through each line. I wish you well and
    appreciate your entry here!

    I agree, Sir BT

Our country is called, "The Pearl of the Orient Seas."
Lot's of beautiful scenery, beaches, active volcanoes, and the warm people, very hospitable... and yes...many lovely Filipinos.

This poem ... a beautiful tribute to my countrymen.

Would you care for a 3rd visit, then?

Very nice. I sponsored a girl in the Phillipines for several years until she actually had enough money to go to school and she was no longer eligible to be sponsored, but I was able to give her my address and e-mail before it ended so that she was able to contact me still and we are still e-mailing!

I would love to visit it.
