"We Watched Our Mom"

Missing image
We watched our Mom--
Loving! Giving!
A life so rich in its living.
Laughing! Caring!
Constantly loving and sharing.
Thinking of others;
A beautiful, unselfish mother.
Held us together;
She'd talk and we would feel better.

We watched our Mom--
Stricken! Paralyzed!
Thoroughly tested and analyzed.
Doctors, being careful;
Mom remained hopeful and prayerful.
Praying! Talking!
Hoping, someday, she'd be walking.
Her body, losing feeling;
No sign of a cure or of healing.

We watched our Mom---
Laughing! Kidding!
Now, in a wheelchair, she's sitting.
Resigned to her condition;
To be loving, was her only mission.
In bed; Laying!
Earnestly, sincerely praying.
Talking to her Savior;
This was her honest behavior.

We watched our Mom---
Peaceful! Dying!
All of the family was crying.
Now, they're together;
She'll dwell with Her Savior forever!

**dedicated to our Mom--
"The Center of the family"

Author notes

**A Dedication to our Mom.
Our Mom was the 'Center' of the family.
When she became paralyzed and soon to be bed-ridden, people would visit with the intention of 'Cheering her up' and the reverse would happen;
She would 'Cheer Them up'!
A wonderful testimony of her faith showing the love of her Savior despite her afflictions!
The Pastor noted this in his eulogy about her.
She is missed, but lives on in our hearts and memories!

  • A very touching tribute and dedication to your Mom. Best of luck, and thanks for entering this poignant poem.

  • so lovely

    You defined moms with such pride,as she showed hers in you, moms are irreplaceable, as I so well know,but thank God she did not live to be in a state where she would be miserable.
    Your mom did the completer opposite and what a pleasure to see... Moms are one of a kind.
    thank you for sharing,
    congrats on the HM

    This beautiful write touches my heart on so many levels. I see myself and my mother through your words. I see all the strength and the courage, her ability to think of others and make them smile when she’s the one in pain. More than the sadness I see the love that you shared with your mother and I'm happy that you have those memories as I do. You are a wonderful writer and I very much enjoy reading your work. May God Bless You Always, Jo-Ann

    As sad as his story was it had a lot of inspiration and meaning to it that just sang. I'm sorry for your loss but glad that you, unlike many other people, can see the glory in sending a life to heaven and being happy for where is.

    Thanks for entering!

    Your mother sounds like a wonderful woman, and though there exists pain for the living (hey, I'm still feeling it, and I'm sure you are too) we can take a little solace in the fact that they're with God now. I heard a song at the funeral; really reminds me a lot of this poem here, actually...not the writing, but the message. Message me if you want to hear about it.
    Wonderfully, powerfully done. You've not only shown how much you miss her but who she was before she was gone. I think I miss her a little, too. Rhyming is a little forced-sounding to me, but that may be just me reading it differently than the rhythm you had in your head.
    Thanks for the entry, best of luck! God Bless (and have him say 'hi' to your mom for me)

    Beautiful poem. My Mom, once she surrendered to her fate, was at peace with it, she joked and laughed even a day or two before she died. She showed concern for my headache as she lay in a hospital bed. She also was at peace. The scene around her bed sounds familiar to me.

    Al,

    My mom was the core of my life for so many years. I wrote a poem for my dad that I can't post because it is being published. My mom is alive and I feel guilty that I can't seem to find the words to honor her. Perhaps there are too many feelings, good and bad, that I'm not ready to face.

    This is a lovely poem and beautiful tribute to your mom.

    HEARTFELT

    My friend,

    I sit here with tears running down my face.My heart is breaking for your loss, as i know of that pain, that emptyness that comes when we loose some one that we love so dearly.Your poem told a story of a family who loved so closely, and so unconditionally with a mother who was the families rock, and the wind beneath her children's wings.You have told the story so well and the visuals are beautiful even though they are sad.Your mother sounded like she was a beautiful lady who dearly loved all her family and friends.Actually she sounded alot like my own dear mother who sadly has also passed, but we didnt get to say goodbye, as she was murdered, she was taken from us through the crime of domestic violence by her long term partner(not my father)she was only 57 and it has been 11 years since i had the joy of hearing her voice, or feeling her touch, or seeing her smile.But i know she is in a better place now where she is safe, happy and much loved, and yes, i do believe that we will meet up again and i will be able to hold her once more and tell her how much i love her.Thank you my dear friend for sharing your heart with us, and i send you many blessings and much love.Take comfort knowing that those who love will be reunited in eternity.May angels walk with you today and always.
    Much love,
    Angel.

    Just beautiful!

    This is so familiar to me. It wasn't my mother, though, it was my sister. The way you take us through the stages of this experience is amazing. I'm sorry for your loss. "She'll dwell with Her Savior forever!" is just so comforting!

    Fantastic write!
