I'm gonna be a Daddy!
Me! A guy who's 38; Kind of straight;
Hair turning gray; Seems funny to say--
"I'm gonna be a Daddy!"
Yep! It's gonna happen--
I'm gonna be a Daddy!
And my lady's the Mommy!
And, What do you know? She's starting to show!
Getting a tummy! Seems kinda funny
her wearing those jeans; Too tight it seems;
And it seems funny to say--
"I'm gonna be a Daddy!"
Maybe a little girl--
All snuggled in a pink blanket
with her wondering eyes and a look of surprise
at this vast new world to explore.
And, Who's that 'Grown-Up' standing there?
The guy with the gray in his hair--
That's Me!--Your Daddy!
Watching her with her first doll;
Saying her first words;
Taking her first steps;
Wearing her first pony-tail;
Yes, My little 'Angel'
and I'm her Daddy!
But, Then again,--What if it's a Boy?
Well, that means Bunk-Beds, Baseball, Football,
Spiderman, Batman, Superman and, oh yes--
his cousin's hand-me-down clothes and toys;
But, what a joy;-- A 'Boy'!
To ask all the questions in the world about
Frogs and Toads, Football and Baseball,
and someday, he'll even ask about 'Girls'!
That's when Mom says--
"Go ask your Father!"
Me?--A "Father"??
How do you change a Diaper?
How do you make Formula?
Do you hold your nose
when the kid makes a mess?
I can't handle it when
the dog makes a mess!!
But, Yes, I'm gonna be a 'Daddy'!
And we have to get ready;
My lady's craving 'Spaghetti'!
So, if you see me smile,
In just a little while,
I'm gonna be a Daddy!!
Author notes
*OPTION 2: write something about about the joys of parenthood.
This is how I felt when I found out I was going to become a Father!
It was a GIRL!
A Dedication to my daughter Desiree, my one and only child.
I was so nervous during my lady's pregnancy and praying the baby would be healthy and have all it's fingers and toes.
My lady went into labor during childbirth class at the hospital. (convenient)
I heard my new daughter crying before she emerged.
'Healthy' & 'Normal'--Thank God!
It's amazing how fast she grew up!

I remember how amazed I was with my own children, how awed, to be a mother and a member of the miracle of birthing. What a feeling!
I just found out this week that I'm going to be a Grandmother for the first time. The awe returns.

I love this!

Think you were scared with only one child coming into the world ,
why don't you try two of them coming onto the world.
I was so nervous i was having dreams of them looking like Aliens from different planets.
They were my first also.
So i can imagine your nervousness but try mine. lol.
I loved this poem was almost like i was back into my pregnancy days.Blah!hehe.
What a wonderful write.

LOL. I loved the ending here. I think we are all scared with our first. You did very good explaining those feelings. thanks for entering

Ha, ha!
Now, this was a joy to read. Nothing like the anticipation of the birth of that first child; and all the question that the kids come up with as they get older. Seeing them grow up into a young adult. We all wonder where the time went. Love the humor you put into this one. Sweet!

-
this is exactly how i want my guy react when i have a kid (which will not be for a loooong time!) this is just so beautiful. thankyou so muc for entering my contest and best of luck!

What a lovely poem.
The day I found out I was pregnant with my first child?
Mt. St. Helens blew up, erupted in our STATE! (WA.)
i felt like sending out i'm sorry cards...i was really
shocked and just started a new dream job!
and yes, I was so happy, I stayed home with my daughter
and enjoyed being her mommy!
Lovely, lovely poem to enjoy! so much heartfelt sentiment, it really warmed our hearts to read this
delightful poem! loved it!

They grow so fast. Thanks so much for hsaring this. This is a great peek into what the man is thinking. I am so glad that your little girl turned out fine. And yes you are right about howw they grow sooo fast. It seems like you bring them home from the hospital one day and then you blink and poof they are all grown up and you are walking them down the aisle. Godd luck.
-
This is absoloutely amazing. It reminds me of the first time I became a Daddy, that feeling doesn't dissipate after the first, I feel the same way I felt the first time.
It is crazy how fast they grow up. My oldest turned 9 this year and it feels like yesterday I was holding him in my arms.
Thanks for entering.
