At Long Last

Way out there, in the land to the west
Lay a bear with a vest, and a beating chest
I digress, in its vest, the bear had to fret
At the thoughts of this mess he couldn’t bypass

Now they say, he sure tried to walk on by
But his eye caught a sly glance at her thighs
Swaying side by side with a cry that signed
He tried and tried but only felt slightly there

He didn’t know what, or how to go
Attempts kept failing, he grew bold
Tried to leap, dance, and play tricks
For weeks and weeks, he only felt ticked

At long last, he gave, gallantly away
Left her alone with ni a small wave
He never knew how much she cared
How she wanted just a glance towards her way

The problem is, and regretted soon after
Her pupils were fixed at stars, and moons
If she looked straight, at her woven path
Her wishes would meet the bear, at long last

Author notes

This poem is about a bear who catches the eye of someone appealing but finds out that you often catch the best view after it's already gone.
