Go Ask Alice

Missing image
 burnt bodies lie on cold flagstones

 [the thrones of their hearts]

 as they kiss the hems

 of their true intentions;

 tyrannical queens.

 cards flow, drunken gamblers;

 loosened lips and hands.

 empty pockets;

 the wagers too high.

 off with their heads.

 mechanical caterpillars crawl

 along the cracked walls.

 [the mushrooms melt.]

 the sky is clogged

 with opium smoke.

 alice grapes at forbidden wonders,

 fragile as butterfly wings

 as she hides from trips gone bad.

 the red queen laughs.
