Remains of the Day

These are the remains of the day
She died a death at the hands of night
When the sun faded gone was the light
And now she's gone away
These are the remains of the day

Skeletal fingers point to the sky
And eye sockets glare in the light of the moon
Death was quick and ti came too soon
She lay down and died away
With the remains of the day

Rotting bones wither and worms make a home
In heart and lungs and stomach the same
Decomposing a terrible shame
For all was given away
She lies.. the remains of the day

Reaching forever a hand to the heavens
She asked for hope for one last time
But out of her grave she could not climb
Nothing more now to say
Her remains.. remains of the day

Years gone by, her body rotting in Earth
Love passed by upon a white steed
And the corpse still felt that need
To rise from where she lay
To raise the remains of the day

And her body though infested with worms and flies
Got up and walked through the trees
And brought her prince to his knees
But he screamed out and ran away
Never to return to remains of the day

And follow him she did to his abode
And haunted his every dream there
And became a terrible haunting nightmare
She took him to hell far away
He fell for the remains of the day

Now when you ride upon the hillside
Two corpses lay in an embrace
The terror in his twisted rotten face
And hers now happy to lay
Both the remains of the day
