Love Letter

Mr. Mailman
Oh won't you please
bring me my love letter
from overseas

I haven't heard from him
in oh so long
I need to know he's still living
that he is still strong

I miss him so terribly
I cry every night
and I look every morning
and wonder, "did he write?"

Every afternoon I ask you
"Anything from my dear?"
You shake your head sadly
"No, there's nothing here."

I go through this routine daily
and fight back the tears
as I dream about "us"
and our many years

Every day  I ask
and everyday you say no
time begins to move on
"soon" begins to seem like "long ago"

I stop asking
and let the days go by
weeks turn to years
I no longer cry

I haven't heard from you
in two years time
I figure your dead
or you're no longer mine

Then one day
The mailman knocks on my door
hands me my mail
and then once more

I ask him, "is there anything?"
He smiles in reply
and nods his head yes
hands me a letter from my sweetie pie

"Hello my darling
I'm sorry I haven't wrote
do you know how hard it was
to find paper on this boat?

We are on our way home
I am safe and alive
On the 19th of this month
in the harbor, we will arrive

So please come to meet me
I miss you so much too!
and I hope you never forgot
how much I love you"
