Stunned again, by my own silence,
my abuse seems your infection.
I'm apathetic of your vengeance,
as if numbness were my protection.
A neverending stream of tears
comes cascading from within.
Spilling out like saline waterfalls,
from the precipice of my chin.
As they flood the floor below me,
forming pools within my shadow.
If I could slip beneath their surface,
I would drown in my own sorrow.

Oh, my. You have painted such a heartbreaking picture with your words. Your use of the beautiful natural imagery juxtaposed with this horrific scene had the marvelous effect of seeing and feeling beauty destroyed. Your voice is strong, and your message so important. Thank you for your author's note. I know that will be encouraging to many.

sigh ...
your message touches me deeply, and I am very sensitive to your words ... personal experience or empathy with those concerned, this verse is one belonging to womanhood all together ...
it is said that when women are in their moon (pms, and the time of their periods), they connect with the collective consciousness of womanhood and feel in their own body the pain and suffering, both physically and emotionally ...
I have become aware of that, since my mood changes sometimes so drastically, that my husband says that "this is not me" who is talking and acting ...
it's a challenge, but also a gift, to be able to walk in the shoes of those who suffer ... as you have done here through this verse, reminding us all of the sacredness of womanhood ...
heartfelt blessings,
maa

I think Penman said it best Vivid, sad and true.
I grew up in a world that did not hit woman and at 43 I never have. reading your words I cannot help but feel the need to jump into that image and stand between him and her.

My heart hurt reading these words and understand the emotion. Excellent reflection of an all too common event. So many go unreported, unknown. Sometimes the abused doesn't even know what's happening until it hits her/him square in the face.
Everyone has a right to live without being physically or emotionally brutalized.
Wonderful verse my friend.

coming from a marrage that was to a man who had no consept of love and who was abusive to me verbally mentally and sexually and on one day i saw it drifting to physical and that is when i left this poem makes me angry.... angry at any one who abuses another. how dare they do that? just cause your biger and stronger doesnt mean you should use that to your advantage. but what erks me even more is the people so blind that they forget to have the empowerment to change their fate and open the door and walk out. i have no pity for those who countiue to indulge the beater in their sadistic pleasures of tormenting the one they say they love... believe me they dont they are not capable of it.. they are only capable of pain. i love that your poem brings out so much strong emotion in me. i hope that some one who reads it uses it to make a change in their life if they are the victom of this awful curcomstance. and if this is you who has been beaten then i admire your courage to voice this and i hope you are free of the person who did these things to you.. briliant wright thank you for sharing and i am glad you were feature in the contest so i could be introduced to your work...
