Little one, I want you to know
You are stronger than you think
For you possess a great power.
Do not be afraid of standing out
Do not be afraid of what others think
You possess a wonderful boldness.
If you want to sing, sing strong
If you want to act, become the character
If you want to dance, be passionate.
Remember to love because we all need love
Be sure to forgive and exercise grace
Remember to put yourself first sometimes.
Do unto others
But don't let yourself be a doormat
It's ok to say no.
Listen quietly to your elders
Speak with kindness & wisdom
And defend self, family and friends.
Most importantly, remember this
You are beautiful in every way
And don't be afraid of taking chances.
You are stronger than you think
For you possess a great power.
Do not be afraid of standing out
Do not be afraid of what others think
You possess a wonderful boldness.
If you want to sing, sing strong
If you want to act, become the character
If you want to dance, be passionate.
Remember to love because we all need love
Be sure to forgive and exercise grace
Remember to put yourself first sometimes.
Do unto others
But don't let yourself be a doormat
It's ok to say no.
Listen quietly to your elders
Speak with kindness & wisdom
And defend self, family and friends.
Most importantly, remember this
You are beautiful in every way
And don't be afraid of taking chances.
Author notes
Some of these things I wish I heard more as a child. And someday I hope I can read this poem to my children. I want them to be free to choose their life rather than fight to have a life at all. It took til college to really start coming into my own and become the woman I've turned into today. And I still have many more years of developing to go.
