Nursery Rhyme Lane

There once was an old woman
who lived in a shoe,
with hubby Humpty Dumpty
and Little Boy Blue.

Their neighbor Simple Simon
had a baby sister Mary,
when running with Jack and Jill
she became quite contrary.

Now Wee Willie Winkie
always yelling at eight o'clock,
should be quiet as the mouse
who ran up Hickory Dickory Dock.

Then the five Little Piggies
sung with Little Bo-Peep,
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
hushing Rock-a-by baby to sleep.

What a fun lane to travel
looking forward to it again,
in hopes of seeing Mother Goose
with black Hickety Pickety Hen.

Fascinating to see how powerful the rhymes and images of childhood remain. All it takes is to see a name and the entire nursery rhyme presents itself to mind, becoming part of your larger tribute to childhood. Well handled.
