You bore a child
some time ago
and fed him and led him
and watched him grow
You nurtured and loved him
and pushed him along
when he stumbled and fell
you taught him to be strong
You did all the things
a parent should do,
so when he had children
what happened to you?
He feeds then and leads them
and watches them grow
and loves them and hugs them
but how would you know
You cannot be bothered
with the noise and the strife
that knowing you grand-kids
would bring to your life
You push them away
and his love turns to hate
I just hope you change it
before it's to late
Please tell me what you think

Wow, I know how that is. It sucks when you look around and see all the dotting grandparents and wonder what happened to the grandparents who were supposed to dote on YOUR kids. I think you probably nailed it when you said that she doesnt want to be bothered with it. We are entering an age when so many people are too busy with "finding themselves" to fill the roles that were once expected of them and cherished by society. Maybe she'll wake up and change one of these days, or more likely you and your husband will have to find a way to accept what feels like a slap in the face but is probably unintentianal.
(Even if my spelling is bad I still have a point!)
Good luck to you. And I like the easy flow and rhythm of the poem. Keep writing!
